Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2018 will be as good for you as I want it to be for me. 2017 left us breathless with its highs and lows but now it’s time to turn the corner and start fresh. And we certainly started off with a bang. Multiple celebrity couples have been announced and rookie groups seem to be debuting by the dozens this year. Also, Korean hip-hop and R&B are continuing to rise in popularity. After the way 2017 ended, I feel it’s important to start the year on a positive note.
Also, there has been a lot of new great music recently released that has my head nodding and helping me forget about the cold, dark days. It’s definitely appreciated because the winter months mean that not only are there cold nights, there aren’t a lot of concerts. As a strong lover of attending music events, this can be disheartening. Hopefully, the two songs of the month will help tie you over until concerts start picking up again. Read on and see if you know the artists and/or the songs!
Songs of the Month
The first 2018 song of month definitely has to go to Dean with his latest hit, “Instagram”. The song is about his love/hate relationship with the social media; and honestly, it speaks to exactly how I feel about it. How many times do you lay in bed, lights off, mindlessly scrolling through your feed? Do you ever find yourself comparing your life to those pictures? This is what Dean expresses through his melodic lyrics. Combine that with an addicting beat and you’ve got one quality song that deserves all the accolades it receives.
The second song of the month for 2018 goes to Woodie GoChild for his song, “Let’s Get It”. Now for those who don’t know, Woodie GoChild participated in Show Me The Money 6 and is signed to Jay Park’s label H1GR Music. This song is a fast-paced headbanger that makes me want to head to the gym and run on a treadmill. Check out both songs and leave your thoughts on them in the comment section below.
Concerts To See
I have searched high and low but unfortunately, could not find any for January. This is probably because companies didn’t want to travel during the holidays. Now that the new year has started, I’m sure the concerts in North America will pick up in the coming months. However, there is one group coming in February (so far) so there is a silver lining. Let me know if you hear of any concerts/fan meetings happening in January and I will gladly update the article.
Astro Global Fan Meeting
KPOPME will be bringing this six-member group to the U.S., while Media One Productions will be bringing them to Canada, for a unique experience with these handsome men. Tickets went on sale January 5, 2018, but are still available (U.S.). I saw Astro perform during KCON LA 2017 and while they aren’t my personal favorite, I can’t deny that some of their songs are catchy.
February 2 – San Francisco – Regency Ballroom
February 4 – Los Angeles – The Novo
February 7 – Washington DC – The Lincoln Theatre
February 9 – New York – The Town Hall
February 10 – Toronto – John Bassett Theatre at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre
February 12 – Vancouver – Orpheum Theatre
You can purchase tickets for the Canadian events here.
