Korean Hip-Hop and RnB Corner – April

Happy April ATK readers! We have finally left the cold winter months and are moving full steam ahead into concert and convention season! Are you excited? I sure am, I dislike the winter. This month’s list of concerts seems significantly smaller than the March madness and maybe that’s because the concert promoters are trying to let us fans rest our minds and wallets before starting up again this summer. Have you made any plans on attending events this spring and summer? Toronto Kpop Con? KCON NY and LA? Let us know in the comment section below!

BTS In Newark Recap

I know this may come as a surprise to the readers, but I do enjoy K-pop. Out of all the groups I quietly squeal over, BTS has been a front runner. What I didn’t realize is that my youngest son had been overhearing the music and had fallen pretty hard himself. Before I realized it, he was a hardcore fanboy. When the concert was announced, he begged to go. Who was I to refuse?

Fast forward to March 24th and we were in the building. What can I say, these men are so talented. I went into the concert being a fan but not knowing every song. I left a borderline fangirl. I won’t go into too much detail about the concert because it would just be a bunch of incoherent screams and sobs, and really who has time for that. I just want to focus on the moment when Rap Monster, Suga and J-Hope came on stage to perform “Cipher Pt. 4.”

I heard the song when reviewing their album, Wings, so I thought I was prepared. I was so wrong. When the bass dropped and the boys rose out from the bottom of the concert floor, I lost my mind. Each member had a distinctive yet different flow that set the crowd into a frenzy. That had to have been the best five minutes I’ve experienced in a concert. I urge everyone to check out a BTS concert when they come to your area. I guarantee you won’t regret it.

Artist Spotlight

This month’s artist spotlight belongs to Korean R&B singer, Bevy Maco. I discovered him during a trip through SoundCloud and am so happy to have found this gem. All of his songs have a laidback flow and if you are into American R&B, they remind me of Bryson Tiller. Bevy Maco has only been making music for a short while but is very dedicated with uploading his songs on SoundCloud so I urge you to check him out. You won’t be disappointed.

Make sure you follow Bevy Maco on other social media as well.

Song of The Month

I have really been enjoying hip-hop artist DPR Live’s song “Laputa”. The song features R&B crooner Crush and if you are into visual aesthetics, definitely check the video out. Laputa was the name of the flying island in the classic story Gulliver’s Travels. Some fans think that the song name is based on the Japanese animation called Castle In The Sky. Either way, the song is amazing and should be listened to on repeat.
