Winter Fashion in Korea

Collage of some of the winter fashions

Happy New Year! New year, new trends I guess? ^^ While it may already have been cold for a while where you are, now that winter has officially arrived, I’ve gathered up what I consider to be some of the most popular fashion trends this season in Korea. Winter is my favorite season, so I’m especially loving these looks!

High Turtlenecks

One thing I have definitely noticed trending is high turtlenecks. (I’m not entirely sure how to put a name to these, but these are turtlenecks with long, exaggerated necks!) I’ve seen them a lot in celebrity fashion shoots and I honestly love the concept. It’s like a sweater and scarf in one—super cozy! Pair it with jeans or a skirt on those extra cold days to stay warm and cute at the same time.

Anything with sayings or patches on it has been pretty popular in Korean fashion. It’s a fun, quirky way to personalize your style and make a statement. Wear a graphic sweatshirt on cuddle-weather days or try wearing it under a souvenir jacket for a trendy twist, like so.

Midi Skirts

Midi skirts are a great alternative in cold weather because they add an extra layer of protection. You can also wear stockings underneath for more warmth if needed, but these look super cute with boots or heels. Try experimenting with this longer hemline for new silhouettes with your favorite sweaters and tops.

Blocky Heels

Pumps with chunky heels are very popular at the moment. I love this trend because they’re a whole lot easier on the feet than stilettos and almost have a vintage, doll-like vibe. I’ve especially seen them in suede finishes and camel colours lately.

Sleek Booties

Heeled or flat, we all love booties. They come in a billion colours and styles and are incredibly versatile. I’ve seen them especially paired with midi skirts and sweaters this winter. You can wear stockings under them or keep your legs bare. They’re also cute with a pair of jeans rolled at the ankle.

Fur Collar Coats

I saw so many ads for coats like these while watching the MAMAs (Mnet Asian Music Awards) and I’ve also seen lots of idols model them in photo shoots. It’s a classic trend that adds a sporty touch to your outfit while keeping you well protected from the cold. If you’re feeling a bit daring, wear one with a colourful lining for an unexpected pop of colour.

  • How cute is this statement ring shaped like a tiny lipstick?

  • Try wearing fishnet tights under skirts or even ripped jeans for an edgy vibe.

  • Cozy slippers are a must for snow days at home cuddling (with a person or hot cocoa! ^^)

  • Try layering long sleeve tops under your lighter clothes to make the most out of your wardrobe.

Final Thoughts

These trends all really depend on the weather where you are of course. Hopefully you can get some inspiration from this article regardless of how cold (or warm!) your area is. I am a total sucker for layering, and admittedly sweatshirts are my go to for morning classes; so I love being able to make them look cute with interesting designs. I also love the outerwear trend in Korea right now with the fluffy fur collars! How would you incorporate these trends into your style? Which look is your favorite? Stay warm friends!
