One of the best parts about attending KCON is being fortunate enough to be a part of the convention’s Red Carpet events. Though much like the fan engagements scheduled throughout the day, it’s not something everyone in attendance can be a part of, but for those who can, it provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be mere feet of a handful of idols and actors.
In such an intimate setting fans have a rare opportunity to interact with their favorite celebrities as they walk the red carpet. Fans close enough to the stage are often times treated to adorable smiles and direct eye contact, while those in the back who are brave enough to declare their love at the top of their lungs are treated to waves, smiles and hearts. No matter where one stands, you’re guaranteed an experience like no other which is why being a part of the Red Carpet is something I always look forward to when I’m at KCON.
The night opened with Seventeen, who are every bit as adorable in person as they are in all their videos. I’m sad to admit that I wasn’t able to snag a photo of them all together but seriously, there are so many of them I’d have to have a massive wide-angle lens to make that shot possible. (#MaybeSomeday) BTOB was next to walk the red carpet and they were just so funny! It was nearly impossible to capture pic of them when they weren’t making some sort of ridiculous face. They’re such hams! If you’re wondering about the photos of them modeling their legs, it’s because the evening’s host, Danny Im, made some remark about them sporting shorts and how their legs looked good. Naturally that inspired even those not wearing shorts to pull up their pant legs and model their gams. Yim Si Wan was up next and he really is just way too cute! His smile is adorable and he seems genuinely happy to have this brief opportunity to meet so many of his American fans.
Crush was up next and I do have to admit, it was a little sad to see him standing onstage alone. After seeing him and Zion.T together in LA last year, it was kinda heartbreaking to see him walk the red carpet alone. Even so, he managed just fine on his own and it was really, really nice to be able to hear him speak. Which, I know sounds funny but when I saw him at KCON last year neither he nor Zion.T spoke a word while they were on the red carpet and I thought that was just so sad. This year he actually answered questions and interacted with is fans and that was just fantastic.
Dynamic Duo was next to walk the red carpet and I can’t tell you how happy I was to see them again. They’d kind of stolen my heart while they were in Chicago earlier this year so having the chance to see them again was fantastic! They both have such adorable smiles, I couldn’t help but melt a little as they smiled and waved to their fans throughout the duration of their time onstage. Being the veterans they are, they know how to work a crowd and I loved every second of their stint on the red carpet.
Ailee was up next and all I can say about her is that she is stunningly beautiful. Like seriously, I wish I had just a fraction of her beauty. She’s that gorgeous. She’s also incredibly personable and just so sweet and bubbly. She’s like a gorgeous ray of sunshine. It only makes sense to have one ray of sunshine follow the others, which is exactly what Park Bo Young was during her time on the red carpet. She’s every bit as adorable in person as she was in Oh My Ghostess and I seriously had to fight off the urge to join the hundreds of fans behind me who randomly yelled “I love you” during her time onstage. She’s just so cute! As the last celebrity to walk the red carpet Friday night, Park Bo Young was allowed a little extra time onstage as she was presented the 2016 DramaFever Award for “Best Actress.”
This year’s Red Carpet experience in New York was quite a lot of fun for me personally as my brilliantly colored hair garnered me quite a bit of unintentional attention from those standing onstage. I guess idols really aren’t used to seeing old zombies like me sporting bright pink hair… Either that or I was just really lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Whatever the reason, I was able to capture some pretty great pictures from both Friday and Saturday night’s Red Carpet events and I’m happy I get to share them with you. I hope you enjoy them!
