Pictorial: DEAN at Spotify House at SXSW

DEAN, the young Korean R&B sensation was the first Korean to perform at Spotify House at South by Southwest (SXSW), ever, when he jumped on the stage earlier this month. While it was a quick set, only four songs, the crowd was definitely on his side. All that enthusiasm grew to a fever pitch when DEAN announced that he was premiering a new song, “Bonnie & Clyde”, to the crowd.

While I’m sure I wasn’t the only one hoping for more songs, it was a fabulous introduction to DEAN for those in the audience that had never heard him before. But, judging from the faces and the chatter in the audience beforehand, he had quite a few fans already that were eager to see him live, especially on such a small, intimate stage.

DEAN strutted on stage full of swagger and passion, both of which were easy to see and hear in his performance. It was easy to see the crossover appeal of his music and I can’t wait to see what he has planned next.

Short set or not, it ended with happy faces and happy fans. But enough of my thoughts on the show… how about some photos?

Final Thoughts

DEAN’s performance at Spotify House at SXSW was a great introduction to his R&B crooning for the audience, although it was obvious that he already had quite a few fans. And it was also a good indication that his music will work well in the American market. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a longer set.

Did you see DEAN at SXSW? What did you think?

Not very familiar with him yet but I’ve heard of his song with Zico, “Pour Up”. It is indeed very catchy! Then that cover of Winner’s “Baby Baby” really got me curious. Then I recently found out that he composed one of Lee Hi’s new tracks “World Tour” feat. Winner’s Mino, under his songwriter name “Deanfluenza”. So young and passionate! He’s definitely one to watch!

He’s new to a lot of people but talented as both a singer and as a songwriter for others. I agree with you, definitely one to watch,
