SXSW 2016 – Korean Musicians (Round Three)

South by Southwest (SXSW) just released their third round announcement of who’s coming to the festival this year and there are five Korean musicians/groups included. They will be joining the eight Korean musicians/groups announced in round one (unfortunately, no Korean artists were in round two). And there are still more artist announcements to come so we might find out about more Korean musicians, fingers crossed.
I know I’ve said it before but I love live music, of any kind, but the chance to catch a musician or group I’ve never seen live before, that’s just that much more special. So, as I was reading SXSW’s third round and I found out that four of the five musicians/groups are ones I’ve yet to see perform… oh yeah, there was a smile on my face.
Who’s in Round Three?
I always love seeing hip hop/rap shows so I’m excited to for the chance to see Deepflow at SXSW. He’s a man of many hats – rapper, songwriter and founder of the record label VMC among others. His label houses Don Mills among others, who I’ve seen a few times in Toronto when he was going by Hwangma K.
I can’t wait to see Guten Birds. Come on, a three-member, all-girl, alt-rock band… how can I not want to see them? I will admit, I’m not overly familiar with them but after listening to I was hooked and quickly checked out a couple of others.
I quite enjoyed catching HEO last year at SXSW and am excited that the electro-rock band is back this year. Their album, Structure, is on my writing playlist because I find them both inspiring and fun to listen to.
This singer-songwriter has a fun electro-pop sound that can either make you want to dance, fall in love or float away on a dreamscape. I’m intrigued to see her live.
WYM is a one-man electronic band whose sound has a dream-pop/electronica sound. I loved his album, After Moon, and am looking forward to seeing him live for the first time at SXSW.
So far there are 13 Korean musicians announced for SXSW (with still more announcements to come so hopefully, more Korean artists as well) and I can’t wait to see them. If you are curious who else was in the third round, check out SXSW’s list.
Who are you most excited to see so far?
