Review: Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX & Laneige Firming Sleeping Pack

My evening products! Laneige is a brand that I was introduced to the winter before I moved home from Korea. My neighbour bought it for me for Christmas and I have a serious love for this product. I will say that this product is a bit pricier than the other domestic brands but you definitely get what you pay for. I’ll be reviewing two because they are the same brand and because the Firming Sleeping Pack is an upgraded version of the Water Sleeping Pack_EX.

I have used the Water Sleeping Pack for almost three years. I have gone through several jars of this magic. One of my favourite things about this product is the scent, which is patented Sleepscent™. It is a refreshing burst of sweet coolness. Does that even make sense? LOL.  The instructions on usage actually advise you to inhale/breathe in the scent before using to help you relax. The texture of this product is a light gel. They suggest you use about 2.5cm in diameter of this product but really for all products you should use as much or as little that you see fit. If you have a large face, you are going to need to use more. Oh and don’t forget your neck!

This product is water based which is great to use at night to rehydrate your skin (their tag line is also that it brightens your skin). While your body rests at night, let your face rest with some hydrating product too! I apply the pack after my toner and eye cream. This product absorbs fairly quickly, and once absorbed it is not sticky and leaves the skin feeling silky and soft. It almost feels like you didn’t put anything on. Although it is a pack you do not have to rinse it off at night. You sleep with it on and then go through your normal routine in the morning. I love that my face always feels supple the next morning. The package recommends you use it once or twice a week, which I find reasonable, but I have used it on a daily basis in the past and it was never over-hydrating or caused any negative side effects/breakouts. This product is recommended for all skin types.

Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX (Size: 80ml)

Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EXThe Firming Sleeping Pack is a product I recently purchased on my last trip to Seoul. Since I love the Water Sleeping Pack_EX, I thought I would give this new upgraded product a try. Little did I know, I would love this product even more than I loved the original. I never read or did any research on this product before I purchased so I was super amazed when I opened and used it.

There’s a form of technology in this product, SleePOP™. Basically, it is like memory form gel for your face. The texture is like stiff pudding. I apply this product after toner and eye cream. I was really surprised at how my skin felt when I put it on. My face felt tighter, but not the uncomfortable kind, just more taut. This product did not make my face feel sticky after application. And while all this was happening, the gel in the container remolded/formed itself to a sleek flat surface. At first I didn’t believe it but after going on their website, it was legitimate and not a magic trick! I really enjoy this product because I felt the effects immediately. You can let this product stay on during the night and then wash it off in the morning. The package recommends you use it once or twice a week, and it’s recommended for all skin types.

Laneige Firming Sleeping Pack (Size: 50ml)

Laneige Firming Sleeping Pack

To tell you the truth, once or twice in a week for each of the above products fits my routine just fine. That would take care of four days of the week, and then I usually sleep with a face mask (and then rub in the excess in before bed) for two nights and then the last day of the week is a free for all. It’s not easy being a girl.  Ha ha. ^^

CIMG5804Once absorbed. No more gloss/shine, but it feels supple, soft and silky.

I would definitely recommend both products. If you are unsure if this brand/product is a good fit for you, try the original (Water Sleeping Pack_EX) first. If you love it, then try the Firming Sleeping Pack. I doubt you will be disappointed. I think the decision to use an evening facial product also depends on how moisturizing you expect the product to feel on your skin. Mind you, just because you don’t feel the product after application it doesn’t mean your face isn’t absorbing the effects. There are nights, especially during the winter months when I want a heavier/thicker cream on my face, and so I use another product, which is another post for another month!

Becky’s Tip:  Use the spatula that is provided with your facial products. There’s a reason for it, and it is to stop things/germs that shouldn’t be in the products from getting in. (Combine this tip with the last one about washing your hands before touching your face.)

I accidentally just bought the firming sleeping pack when I actually wanted the water sleeping pack, but after reading your blogpost I’m contemplating whether or not to return it for the older version or not. Is the newer version a true improvement or should I return it for the water sleeping pack?

    Hi Lina,

Thanks for your message. I would say stick with the Firming Sleeping Pack. It is just like the Water Sleeping Pack PLUS the benefits of firming.

I hope you love it as much as I do! Enjoy.

Wow, this is great! I’m so glad I got to read your blog before my trip to Korea 😀

Recently, I started using Korean facial products as suggested by a good friend 😉 and I really like them! One of the products I bought was a night sleeping pack. Although it makes my skin feels wonderful in the morning, I found it too heavy and sticky on my face when I apply it at night. It’s a great winter product, but I’m going to need something lighter for the spring and summer months. This brand of firming night pack might just be the perfect substitute to the one I’m using now. I can’t wait to get them!

Question: If I were you use the new firming sleeping pack twice a week according to the suggested amount, how long should one jar last?

    Annyeong Unnie!

Well the new firming pack is smaller in quantity so it probably won’t last more than a season of usage (2-3 times a week). The regular pack would probably last a season and a bit since it is a greater quantity. Again, it depends how much you use each time and how often you use it.

Hi! I have slightly oily skin, which one should I try?

    Hi Ariette,

To be honest, I would go with the firming pack. Since both products are water based and don’t leave your skin feeling (extra) oily or sticky, why not have the added perk of firming? : )

Can i use this product everyday?

    • September 4, 2013 at 9:25 am

      Hi Ivan,

Yes, you can use it daily. The packaging recommends otherwise, but I used to use it daily and I never had any issues with breakouts or what-not.

Hi Deric, as Becky previously said, you can. However, the packaging recommends you use it once or twice a week.
