Review: The Faceshop Mango Seed Silk Moist Toner & Eye Cream

Annyeonghaseyo – 안녕하세요!  My name is Becky and this is my first beauty post for ATK Magazine.  I hope you will enjoy it!

Prior to moving to South Korea and teaching ESL to elementary school children for a year, I knew very little about this amazing country.  What I did know was that I would be in make-up heaven.  In-store domestic brands are plentiful and prices beyond reasonable.  I did not bring many products with me when I moved as I knew I would be able to fulfill my needs locally.  I am not a huge make-up person (doesn’t mean I don’t own any), but I do know how to take care of my skin so that I could pass off not wearing a mask of make-up daily.  As I recently visited Seoul in the fall, I shipped home cosmetics to fulfill my gigantic needs to ‘up-keep’.  However, three months home and I want to go shopping for more Korean products!

Today I’ll write about two products from the Mango Seed line that was released this fall by The Face Shop.  What drew me to this product line is my love of fruity products!  Mango scented products are a plus!  I was really excited when the Face Shop launched this line.

The products should be applied in the following sequence: Mango Seed Silk Moist Toner → Mango Seed  Eye Cream → Mango Seed Mild Shine Essence → Mango Seed Silk Moist Lotion → Mango Seed Radiance Cream.  But, I’ll just be talking about the Toner and Eye Cream today.

The Toner and Eye Cream are products I have religiously used since the fall.  I like to mix and match my products, but I still keep the same routine every day until I actually run out of the product.  After my final face wash in the evening I use the Toner and then apply the Eye Cream followed by a night cream.

I found this Toner to be different than others I have used in the past as it is a ‘two-layer’ Toner.  You have to shake it prior to using to ensure that the product is well mixed.  Once blended, it becomes a milky colour and it pumps out a silky texture.  The scent is a fake but not overwhelming mango smell, which is anticipated as it isn’t a real mango!  I don’t use a cotton pad to apply the Toner, I pump it into the palm of my hand, gently clap my hands together and then pat/tap my face (pat some on your neck too, you wouldn’t want to have a great face and then an ugly neck to match).  I never rub it in as it is a liquid solution that your skin can quickly absorb.  What I love about this Toner is that my face feels hydrated after putting it on and leaves it feeling silky!  The purpose of a toner if you didn’t know is to balance the pH lost from cleansing and exposure to the elements.  A toner helps in regaining this lost balance, and gives the skin a healthier look.  There are different Toners for different skin types so beware of which ones you choose!  This Toner is meant for All Skin Type and doesn’t sting when you put it on (unlike some other toners).

The Eye Cream, seems daunting when you think about why you have to use it.  No one wants crow’s feet near their eyes!  This product does not require shaking.  Imagine a thick lotion mixed with a thin cream, it is too dense to shake.  To use, you simply pump it onto your finger tip (drop on each index finger) and then gentle tap it around your eyes for absorption.  I would definitely not recommend rubbing or smearing the product, you will only pull the sensitive skin around your eyes.  I enjoy this product because of the consistency and how it is really moisturizing but not to the point of stickiness.  I can’t tell you if it has helped fight against aging or wrinkles, because that would require taking photos really close to my eyes from when I started using the product until now…and what normal person who does that?  I guess with this Eye Cream, all I can say is ‘why not use it’.  You just never know what miracle(s) it can do for you.  Downside of this product is the dispenser tip and bottle.  It overall package is sleek (to match the other bottles), but the tip of the dispenser always dries up.  I put the lid back after every use and yet every night I end up with a piece of dry eye cream when I pump!  Also, since it is in a bottle, I have a feeling I will have left over products in the bottle because I can’t get it out.  What a waste.  That’s why I like squeeze tubes!  I would recommend a change in packaging!

Side note: I’ve used the Mango Seed Silk Moist Lotion as well and for my skin type (combination) it was sufficient in warm weather countries as I always feel creams can be too moisturizing when it is hot and humid outside.

Overall, I would recommend these products.  As with many products, you should use the full line to combine the effectiveness.  Only down side is the poor design of the Eye Cream packaging.

Becky’s Tip:  Always wash your hands BEFORE you wash your face or apply facial products.  You could be rubbing bacteria, oil and germs into your pores!  You know what that means right?  Breakouts and infections!  Gross.
