Welcome to ATK Magazine

Hello world! ^^ I’d like to welcome you to the inaugural article from ATK Magazine. Now some of you may be used to reading Life’s an Adventure 2 and I’d like to say thanks so much for being one of my lovely readers. However, it was time to grow. Not only was my simple personal blog just not big enough to share all the Korean culture love and wonderful Korean events, concerts & festivals  in Toronto, but the timing was also perfect to launch the new online magazine. Why? 2013 is the Year of Korea in Canada – designated as such by our Prime Minister to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and South Korea. So it was the right time to take the leap of faith that you all would continue to support us as we grew to keep you informed and so ATK Magazine was born… today, on February 1, 2013. Welcome!

Don’t worry, all of our old articles are still there – it’s been so much fun writing about Korean culture in Toronto (and in general) and will continue to be as we reorganize a bit to bring you the best online magazine we can. You’ll notice I keep saying “we”. That’s because my voice isn’t the only one you’ll hear on ATK Magazine. I’ve recruited several others to bring you different opinions and viewpoints. Interested in being one of our writers? We are always looking for guest writers and featured writers – contact our editor (that would be me) at CindyinTO(at)gmail(dot)com for more information or to pitch an idea.

What can you expect from us?

More of the same great articles on Korean food, music, film, dramas, culture, learning Korean, reviews and so much more. In December I asked you what you wanted from us and many of you gave us your thoughts and opinions. Your answers helped shape our new magazine.

Why “ATK”?

ATK stands for “all things Korean” and it came from a random comment from a restaurant I reviewed. I was referred to as the girl who writes about “all things Korean in Toronto”. It stuck in my head and kept nudging my thoughts as I was trying to come up with a new name for the new online magazine. It fit.

Please be patient

You’ll notice we have a new look and new website (along with new writers who you’ll meet one by one in February). Please let us know what you think! That’s one thing that will never change, we will always love hearing from you, our lovely readers (I’m just going to say “our” instead of “my” from now on in my editorials). But please be patient as we still have some cosmetic changes to sort out over the next month. We didn’t want to be down for long so I’ve worked hard to bring you our new look – or at least the bare bones of it – and will do the rest without disturbing your reading. Think of it as getting ready for our big date – March 1, 2013 – when we’ll be all pretty and ready to show you our best face.

Today we just wanted so badly for you to meet our new look. I hope you like us and come back often to visit. Stay tuned for Nicole’s post later today on Korean Irregular verbs!

What do you think of ATK Magazine so far?

Cindy Zimmer

Live life to the fullest everyday - this is a the philosophy I try to live by and it's taken me on many adventures. I write about Korean culture from a non-Korean perspective as the editor/founder of ATK Magazine and I'm the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Toronto Korean Film Festival (TKFF). Previously, I ran a Korean-English language exchange group (in Toronto) for 3 years to stay connected to my three years living in Korea as an English teacher. I love music, film, food and sports and write about 3 of the 4.
