Editorial: It’s time for a change

Hello my lovely readers! I just wanted to say hi to you one last time on Life’s an Adventure 2. It’s been so much fun turning my personal blog on my life in Korea (for new readers, that’s how this blog started) into a blog about Korean culture from a non-Korean perspective. I absolutely loved sharing my love of Korean culture with you all!!

In fact, I loved it so much and I want to be able to bring you more information, more events, more music, more reviews, more everything… that Life’s an Adventure 2 – my blog about Korean culture – is turning into ATK Magazine – a Korean culture online magazine based in Toronto, Canada.

What won’t change…

Don’t worry! We’ll still have the same great (I hope you think it’s great anyway) content. Just more of it. I’ll still be writing lots of articles, sharing my love of Korean culture and showcasing all the wonderful Korean events in Toronto. That won’t change!

Our articles will still have the conversational feel and tone that you’ve said you love. Comments and discussion will always be welcome. We want to get to know our readers and continue building relationships with you. In fact, our readers are so wonderful… some of them have joined me in becoming writers for ATK Magazine!!

What will change

Our name. Life’s an Adventure 2 made sense for my personal blog and philosophy – I think life IS an adventure, one that we are supposed to explore, enjoy and make an impact with. But it no longer reflects what I’m – and the other writers – are writing about. So it was time for a change… and man, was it difficult to come up with a new name. Rebranding – and I have a bit of a marketing background – was hard. ATK Magazine – our new name – came from a random tweet from a restaurant I reviewed… they referred to me as the girl who knew about “All Things Korean” in Toronto. Now I don’t know about ALL things Korean but that’s what we write about… so it fits as a name… or rather ATK Magazine fit as it works well in Korean too (에이 티 케이 Magazine).

The first thing you will notice once we switch over is the cosmetic changes. ATK Magazine will look more like a magazine and less like a blog. But it will still be easy to navigate and the header with the drop-down boxes will still be there so you can find articles quickly. And there will still be purple because that’s my way of stamping my personality on the new magazine.

We will also have a new website address – ATKmagazine.com – to match our new name. So if you have us saved in your favourites… please make that change because we want you to visit… all the time. ^^

But best of all, in addition to being able to read my articles – I’ll still be writing regularly, don’t worry – and Nicole’s; you will have the chance to see Korean culture, dramas, music and food through other eyes. It turns out that Toronto loves Korean culture and I wanted to be able to bring you different points of view, information and opinions. ATK Magazine will feature some great featured writers who will write regular once-a-month articles on an area of Korean culture that they love, as well as guest writers (including some of my favourite bloggers from around the world). Our focus will be on Korean culture in general as well as Korean culture in Toronto; and with the additional writers, we’ll be able to give you a more complete picture.

Please forgive us

Over the next couple of days, we’re moving so we may not look great and we might be temporarily down. In launching the new magazine, not only will we have a new website and a new design but we’re also moving to self-hosting (finally). Basically, we wanted to make all the changes at once so we will only disturb you once! So please forgive us if we are down or look unfinished this week. Friday February 1st is our soft launch and I’m super excited – stressed, nervous but mostly, super excited – to share this with you.

I have a favour to ask you

I know many of you, my lovely readers, subscribe to Life’s an Adventure 2 via email and I want to thank you for it. Don’t worry, your subscription should automatically change to our new website. However, if you “follow” us through WordPress, you will need to also subscribe to us via email. Because we will no longer be on WordPress.com and “followers” don’t transfer. We don’t want to lose you so please subscribe via email!! Thanks so much.

Thank you for being one of our lovely readers and I hope you will enjoy our new online magazine. See you at ATK Magazine!!

Live life to the fullest everyday - this is a the philosophy I try to live by and it's taken me on many adventures. I write about Korean culture from a non-Korean perspective as the editor/founder of ATK Magazine and I'm the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Toronto Korean Film Festival (TKFF). Previously, I ran a Korean-English language exchange group (in Toronto) for 3 years to stay connected to my three years living in Korea as an English teacher. I love music, film, food and sports and write about 3 of the 4.
