Hello my lovely readers, it’s time for another fun event announcement! I’m seriously loving 2012 in Toronto as there have been so many wonderful Korean cultural events and there’s still more to come. You all know how much I love telling you about the amazing events… seriously, 2012 is K-blogger heaven in Toronto. But I digress. ^^

What’s happening?

Super Wave Korea is back this year on Saturday October 27th, and it’s bigger and more exciting than ever. The talent show – which is jointly organized by the Korean Canadian Cultural Association (KCCA), the Korean Tourism Organization (KTO), the University of Toronto’s Korea Club and York University’s Hallyu Dongari – is in its third year.

The organizers have been working hard to bring you a fantastic show and based on the recent announcements of two fabulous special guests – both of whom I’ve seen perform before so I know you’re in for a treat – it’s going to rock! And that’s not counting the contestants themselves.

What is Super Wave Korea?

It’s a fun event that helps showcase Korean culture and K-pop to Canadians via a talent show, traditional performances and of course, yummy Korean food. There are incredible prizes up for grabs in the competition like a free trip to South Korea – courtesy of Korean Air – and electronic gadgets –  courtesy of Samsung Electronics – so expect the contestants to bring their ‘A’ game!

What can you expect from Super Wave Korea?

This year’s Super Wave Korea event will feature the 3rd K-Pop cover competition – both a dance and singing contest. And it’s open to both Koreans and non-Koreans (which is a switch from last year as I remember it being only open to non-Koreans last year). In addition to the competition, there will be performances by guest artists (see below) and fantastic displays of traditional Korean culture with a “modern” twist! Last year the traditional performances were great and I’m expecting more of the same this year.

According to the organizers, “the sound and lighting systems for the event will be completely revamped to deliver an awesome concert-like experience”. This is great news for everyone and will make the show so much more entertaining to watch (and listen to). Oh, and of course, there will be a buffet of delicious Korean dishes to enjoy. One of the things I love most about Korean culture is the food so I can’t wait to see what’s in the buffet. Yep, I dream of Korean buffets! ^^

Who are the special guests?

This year the organizers of Super Wave Korea have arranged to bring you J.Reyez and Terry ‘krNfx’ Im as their super fantastic special guests. I’ve had the chance to see them both perform before and have been following them for quite a while so I can honestly say; you’re in for a treat. In fact, I’ve reviewed J.Reyez’s Wake Up Call and krNfx’s 2012 Toronto Beatbox Battle. They both rock!

New judging format this year!

This year the celebrity judges will be providing the contestants with verbal feedback, American Idol style! So cool! ^^ So the talented contestants who passed the video auditions with not only get a chance to perform for great prizes but will also get valuable feedback from the judges.

Want to know who they are? Of course you do! This year’s judges are:

  • Shimmyshimmycocopuffs
  • J.Reyez
  • Terry “krNfx” Im
  • Dennis Truong of NuLite Entertainment

The Contestants

They haven’t been released yet but the organizers say that based on the video auditions submitted, they will be a mix of cover singers, singers with original songs, dancers, and perhaps some rappers as well. I can’t wait to see who made the cut!
