Review: My first foray into BB Creams

Hello my lovely readers, this is a short post about discovering the wonders of BB creams. A while back, Life’s an Adventure 2 had a contest where a lucky reader won a BB cream from Skinfood. This got me thinking that I should try one. Yep, that’s right… I hadn’t used a BB cream yet.

The contents of my Korean makeup bag ^^

You see,  I love makeup and skincare – and I do own a lot of it, just check out the picture above… that’s just my Korean makeup. But I hadn’t used a BB cream yet as I tend to prefer pressed powder to foundations. But the contest got me thinking about BB creams and some conversations with a few Korean friends decided it for me. I was going to try one, especially as everyone said they were different from traditional foundations… lighter and less cakey (my main dislike of foundations). The problem was, everyone I talked to had a different favourite BB cream. So I decided to go with whichever one caught my eye on Momomango

My first BB cream

So during my last order from Momomango, I looked at their BB cream selection… and man, are there a lot of choices. But they had just got in several different kinds from the same brand – Holika Holika – so I decided it was fate and choose one of the Holika Holika Petit BB Creams… the Watery one. Why? It said it would moisturize and make my “face look refreshed all day long.” As someone with dry skin, especially in the winter this sounded great. Plus it was one of the few that didn’t promise to whiten my skin (I have no desire for white/lighter skin).

BB cream on my hand – a little lighter than my skin tone

I have to say, I’m impressed. It doesn’t quite match my skin tone (during the summer at least) but blends in nicely and evens out any slight discolourations without covering my freckles. I love my freckles so this is a bonus. But the real beauty for me… it feels light and I don’t notice it at all once it’s on, even after wearing it for several hours. I’m definitely sold on it.

So my first foray into the land of BB creams is a success. I’ve been converted! What about you, do you use BB creams? What brand/kind?

Yay, my favourite Skinfood lipstick is available in Canada

P.S. During that same order from Momomango which was made possible by the lovely readers who used my Momomango coupon code (if it’s your first order with them, use the code CINDY2012 for $10 off your first order), I was super happy to find my favourite Skinfood lipstick was available. So, of course, I added one to my order as my last one of the same kind/shade was almost finished. Yay, so happy! The Skinfood Tomato Jelly Lip Tint in Berry is like the love child of a traditional lipstick and a gloss. It’s got the light, shiny tint that most glosses have without the stickiness and comes in a convenient stick form (like a lipstick) without being too heavy or drying. Basically, all the good qualities but none of the bad. It looks super bright but since it’s a tint, the colour on your lips is much lighter.

I usually don’t wear make up, but I am crazy about BB creams. It’s really just like a cream – with a bonus of a better complexion.

My favorites so far are Super+ Beblesh Balm from Skin79 and Mineral Multi BB by HERA. Other ones I tried left my skin looking a bit like I covered it with mud, but these ones are perfect 🙂

I haven’t really used BB creams because I am quite particular about what I put on my skin- preferring powder mineral makeup. However I did have some samples from when I last went to Korea and randomly tried one recently. I was really impressed, so I’m going to buy a BB cream I think. Just not sure which one yet!

Finding the best one for you can be a challenge, but a fun one as everyone seems to have a different favourite. BB creams have definitely converted me… so light and natural feeling compared to regular foundations.
