Review: Pelo Hair & Spa
I’m a people-person so one of the attributes I value the most in both other people and businesses is friendliness. If you are friendly and welcoming when I visit your business, I will not only come back but I’ll tell my friends to shop or use your services. Conversely, bland service will just make me not come back and unfriendly or rude service will make me not return AND tell others about my experience. But this post is about a place I received super friendly service – it’s a good tale about a salon and spa that I would highly recommend. In fact, I plan on going back after the holidays to check out more of their services.
I had some time to kill last Friday while waiting for a friend so I decided to treat myself to an eyebrow wax at the nearby Pelo Salon and Spa on Bloor Street (just west of Bathurst) in Koreatown. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the owner (I came to know that she was the owner during a later conversation) and offered refreshment while I waited briefly for the esthetician. It wasn’t just the fact that I was greeted and offered refreshment that impressed me but how friendly and welcoming she was. Even the other customers were friendly! While I waited, I had a short, friendly conversation with another customer who was having a spa package done. Some salons and spas seem impersonal or almost cliquey but I felt right at home here.
Plus, they also do great work. My eyebrow wax was quickly and professionally done AND I was given a quick top-of-the-face massage which I’ve never received before when getting my eyebrows waxed. I’m a sucker for massages – I love, love, love them so this was another huge plus for me. And to top everything off, their prices are great too. My eyebrow wax was only $8 and because I was a first time customer, I got 30% off. WOW!! They also have a point card so if you regularly use their services, you get a discount.
And remember how I said at the beginning of the post that when I find a business/service/product I like, I tell my friends? Well, when my friend arrived a little while later, I told her about the place over dinner and we stopped in afterwards so she could get their business card. They thanked me for recommending them which was sweet
So while I’ve only tried one of their services to date, I’m definitely going back the next time I need a haircut or want a mani-pedi because I imagine they will do a fabulous job on those too. And I can enjoy their friendly and welcoming environment again!
**Update: July 4, 2012**
I’ve been back several times over the past six months or so for a variety of services and my opinion of them is still the same – I love Pelo Hair & Spa. They have now become my regular place for my hair, nails and waxing needs. It’s super hard to find a hair stylist that understands curly, fine hair but Kim – the owner – does a beautiful job with my hair. She also does fabulous updos as well as you can see at the final picture of this post. And I’m extremely picky about manicures as I can do a great job myself but Shazia does a fabulous job with my nails and my brows! I highly recommend them.
